Super load: Level Crossing Removal Project (LXRA)

When the Level Crossing Removal Project (LXRA) needed to shift twenty 270-tonne bridge structures across Melbourne, the Victorian State Government, VicRoads and their contractors relied on Monash engineers to monitor the critical road bridges along the route. Bridge engineering specialist, Dr Colin Caprani and Senior lecturer Pippa Connolly, led a group of academics and postgraduate students to develop a plan to analyse the bridges’ responses to the hefty ‘super loads’ passing overhead.
