Bridge Research

The reason that I became a structural engineer was because of a fascination with bridges. In 2001 I took the opportunity to move from consultancy practice into research on bridges. My PhD research (2001-2005) was in the area of bridge loading. In particular, I looked at how to statistically analyse limited amounts of data so that the lifetime maximum traffic loading on the bridge could be found. Since then I have kept up a moderate amount of research, in spite of a heavy lecture load.

Some quite general information, as well as some technical aspects are available in my PhD dissertation, here (18.7 MB). To save the big download, more information on this research is available on this page of the site.

A list of my publications, as well as most of the publications themselves, is available here.

Presentations I’ve made on my research, and general structural engineering topics, are available here.
